Father's Day @ San Frans

We celebrated Father's day earlier this year to escape the over-priced, forced/ compulsory/ 'only have' set meals (which are always bluntly prepared), and packed restaurant at San Francisco Steakhouse, Jaya Square. Attended the 6.00 p.m mass at St. Ignitious Chapel, ended at 7 and off we went to relish our appetite.

Was very fortunate that we made reservations beforehand as it was crowded and the place is kinda small with less than 30 tables or so. Abangku was fashionably late, making us rather hungry and hunger makes me grumpy and grumpy makes me bitchy and bitchy..... (I can go on and on....)

Anyways it was my second time eating in this restaurant, the first was few years back at PJ and if I could remember properly the food was just alright...... so we thought of giving it another try after a couple of years... noble second chance wtf..... Abangku was gonna foot the bill and that gave me the opportunity to really order.... grin.... >:)

We ordered quite a lot actually...... I had a bowl of onion soup as an appetizer and on top of that my bro added a portion of seafood chowder, 2 sets of potato skin and nachos...... I know... it's weird ordering Mexican appetizers in an American restaurant.... and not surprisingly the taste was just alright...... In fact, my parents commented that it couldn't match TGIF's or Chillies'..... well duh' since they are indeed Mexican themed restaurants.....

As for the main course, I had sizzling steak and I couldn't help it but to compare with Victoria Station's one..... the latter prevails..... maybe I'm dumb but I find the sauce to be the most important part of the dish and I found VS' to be more tasty..... my dad had the same steak and agreed with me...... dumb too maybe? Like father like son.... I'm still proud to be his son... and he better be proud to be my dad...

My bros had a cowboy steak and garlic steak which was frankly below par. SY, my bro's gf had some chicken dish which was very dry..... Mum's blackpepper steak sauce was a little too dilute.... so......... nothing much to say......

One superb point I noticed was the service provided. The staff there are friendly and approachable. My dad was trying to trick my younger bro by telling him V.S.O.P in the drink menu stands for "very special old pot" and we were all wtf! So as he giggled he casually asked the staff what does it really stand for but the staff was clueless too. He told my dad he will looked it up in a while... after 10 minutes he came back giving my dad a written napkin..... V.S.O.P means "Very Superior Old Pale". He even 'researched' (in the internet) what X.O stands for (X.O = Extra Old) just in case wtf. Even more wtf was my dad bragging he got 2 out of 4 correct..... we let him reign his 'victory' since it's father's day celebration......

After dinner we decided to hang out in Starbucks and have a family catching-up session.... It was nice sipping coffee and talking crap....so crap until we discussed the story of dumplings (bak zhang). Apparently some emperor/ warrior died and was let to float in the river/sea/lake (so many versions wtf). One version was the villagers purpose to make the dumplings and throwing it into the river/sea/lake as offerings to the warrior. The other version was to throw the dumplings into the river/sea/lake for the fishes to eat (so that they won't eat the warrior.. super wtf). We all then further argued how the fish was going to unwrap the leaves of the dumpling and yada yada... I know... damn pointless but it's fun la. Funny thing we never do this at home since everyone will always be in their respective room or out..... I wonder why? hmm........
